Dear Concordia Kansas Snow Mower

In Concordia on January 15, 2010 at 2:40 am

Got a kick out of this letter to the editor from the Concordia Blade. Hope the “snow mower” in question gets the point!!

Dear Editor,
Open letter to snow mover:

I ask you who in their right frame of mind would pile the snow around all the handicap parking near Dollar General, Town and Country and Orscheln when there were so many other out-of-the-way spots that it could have been deposited?
What were you thinking?
I hope and pray you never need a handicap parking permit and some imbecile does what you did. Were you thinking the snow was handicapped or are you?
Sincerely yours,
Ronald E. Denk

Crews of Kansas inmates clear snow from driveways, sidewalks for qualified Topeka residents

In Topeka on December 29, 2009 at 7:51 pm

Inmates from the Kansas and Shawnee County corrections departments are getting some time outdoors shoveling snow from driveways and walks at Topeka homes.

This is the fourth year for the snow relief program, which benefits elderly and disabled Topeka property owners with limited incomes.

Roseanna Haugen is the community resource manager for housing and neighborhood development in Topeka. Haugen says the property owners appreciate the service, and the inmates get the satisfaction of helping people.

The inmate teams were on the job Monday, helping clear the more than 11 inches of snow that fell on Topeka since Christmas Eve. In all there are six teams of female inmates and two teams of men.
